I thought I would use this post to give you a bit of background information about what inspires me and my designs...
I love to draw, I always have and when designing a new collection I tend to start by sketching from source material into one of my many (many) sketchbooks.
One of my main sources of inspiration is pocket watches, I love the miniature wonders of engineering and their intrinsic beauty. Did you know in the watch movements, rubies and sapphires are used in the pivots, due to their durability.
The pocket watch was also an integral symbol used in the Memento Mori of 15th to 17th century. I like the message behind Memento Mori and it is something that I aim to live my life by. Memento Mori was a reminder of the inevitability of death. I like the idea of using the pocket watch as a metaphor, for the wearer to live every day like your last.
This is a page from one of my design sketchbooks.
Bye for now! Hannah
